It seems to me that 5,000 years of human history which documents its unremitting torture, rape, pillaging, wars, massacres, genocides, slavery, murder, etc. indicate that nothing has changed and nothing will change until mankind has either destroyed itself or awakened.

Ascension anyone?

"Nothing will change until mankind has either destroyed itself or awakened." What a spur Trump is to bring us to that brink. I can see history describing how our society was running itself into oblivion when Trump the Destroyer turned out to be humanity's savior -- how all the mechanisms that were running the country had to be recreated, and in so doing how we left the path to ruin we were on and got a fresh start to design a world committed to caring rather than to profit.

Great piece Mark.

I’m a small bit associate producer of the upcoming E Jean King documentary, and as a member of the Me Too Movement, I have numerous reasons to applaud any klieg light thrown on the Epstein nightmare, and the imperious behavior of degenerate sexual abusers.

Here's a sad thing. I mean, a saddening, maddening, over-the-top, nauseating thing: That too many men in privileged, powerful positions have not evolved past the level of those apes (mainly bonobos, apparently) who revel, REVEL, in abusing nubile females (I won't say women) to make themselves feel, what? Even more 'special,' 'virile,' 'manly'? In this day and age, when it's been demonstrated without a doubt that in most ways that count (not, maybe lifting heavy things) women are the peers if not the betters of men. So what were these men doing, exploiting the relative persuadability and fearful passivity of girls still wet behind the years because if they'd tried this kind of thing with grown up, accomplished women, they might have been laughed into oblivion, not to mention reported to the police? It's no accident that the woman who did exactly this, E. Jean Carrol, was not a child enamored of tik tok influencers, glitter eye shadow and the newfound power of her changing body to gain the attention that all children crave. She was a person of means, with a mature sense of self. I'm honestly horrified and disgusted.

No tik tok or influencers yet in those "halcyon" years.

Just a metaphor, however inept. Sorry.

Gotcha. Boy, those were the golden years though. Now dammit, you kids, get the hell off my lawn. Go over to MacArthur Park and get run over by a horse!
